Last week Room 6 and I did our Solar System. We had to get in two pairs of partners and my partner was John and we had to choose one of the 8 planets to research. John and I got Venus.

 One fact about Venus is that the nickname for Venus is Morning Star and the Evening Star. Another fact is on Venus the highest a person can jump is about 67cm before taking off into space.

One mnemonic for our solar system that Mrs Agnew gave was MVEMJSUN which means My Very Energetic Mother Just Served Us Nachos.

This afternoon Room 6 and I did a Haiku Poem. The Haiku Poem is crafted from Japan. The Haiku poem is where you write three lines. In the first line you have to write five syllables and in the 2nd line you have to write 7 syllables and the 3rd line you write 5 syllables again. Look at this Haiku that I wrote.

Swimming is the best

Under the boat was awesome

Diving is cool too.

Mission Day 2024

On Friday 13 September 2024 it was Mission Day. We did Mission Day so St Patrick’s school could raise money for an orphanage in India. I came to school in my mufti clothing feeling thrilled. I was amazed seeing so many cool outfits.

The bell rang and I rushed to class. Then we went to church. We set up our stall and waited for people to come to our stall. The bell rang and THE CHAOS began.

Everyone started to set up their stalls and there were lots of stalls and so much stuff to buy. And I wonder what was there to buy. Then room 1 and room 2 came to our side of the school.

People were buying stuff left and right. It was STILL CHAOS. The First game I went to was a game where you had to throw a little soft ball. I paid 1 dollar for 2 tries and lost so I walked around the school. Then I wanted to try the Throwing game again so I did and I won a drink and 5 lollies.

Then I wanted to buy bracelets so I did that. I was walking around to find my sister and I saw her at the fishing game which is my class’s game and I asked her if she wanted to verse me and she said ‘ok’ so we battled. And I won.   

When the bell rang I was at the bracelet store and they said it was for free so I grabbed 10 bracelets. I went to class and there were still lots of balloons that Mr Carroll was selling. Then Ms Kyle came and said to clean up the room and we could watch a movie. We watched an old movie about a little boy and a dragon. Ice blocks came, and I got 2 and I was lucky I got 2. Then we had to go home. We did prayers and lined up and went home.      

Cycling Day

Last Thursday Room 6 and 7 were lucky enough to have cycling lessons.  There were two people named Stephanie and Lucy. We had to grab our helmets and my teacher was Stephanie. We came to the top court and we had to check our bikes for safety. It is  A – air,  b – brakes, -c – chain,  d – direction,  d – drop test – q – quick release lever x3 – wheels and under seat. 

After that I went to the canopy because I cannot ride a bike so after a little bit Stephanie came and said  to come to the top court. Then we did scooting and I felt like I wanted to pedal and then started pedaling and Ms Yumul said I was cheating and I said no…….. 

Then Ramesey, Pio and I started pedalling. It felt awesome, wonderful, thrilling and more. When I was more confident I went to the top court and it was great to cycle around the cones. I felt confident at the end.

On Wednesday yesterday students from Room 6, Room 7 and Room 8 had to come to school in their PE gear because we had a tournament! I woke up at 6:00am just to come to school early. I came to school being anxious and exhilarated and we had to pack our bags with a mouth guard, water bottle and best of all  our lunches.

Mr Bell sorted the teams for St Patrick’s School. We all happily marched out of the gate and started to head to the tournament at Dunkirk park. When we arrived we saw Panmure Bridge and more schools.

We played four games altogether and I got impatient waiting for each game. The games were disappointing as the first game we lost. Number two and three we lost too. Finally game number 4 came around and we won. It was a good feeling of winning but my water bottle was empty!!! My friend Georzen’s bottle was  also empty so we both walked to refill our bottles.

At the end of the tournament we took a picture and walked back to the school AND MY ANKLES WERE IN PAIN but I was ok. It was a great day.

The first known Olympics was in the summer of 776 B.C at Mt Olympia, a site in southern Greece where thousands of people went to worship their gods. In fact, the Olympics were created in honor of ancient Greece’s most famous god: Zeus, king of the gods. And the number of people who participated was over 11 thousand athletes!.

In 1896, the first modern Olympics games were in Athens Greece. The games had 14 nations and 280 participants, competing in 43 sporting events

Room 6 and I researched about athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics and my athlete is Dylan Schmidt. He does trampolining and unfortunately he came 7th because he failed to land the flip. He has zero gold medals, zero silver medals and one bronze medal. He is 27 years old and he competes for New Zealand.

Keith Haring was born in America in May 1958. He grew up in Kutztown, Pennsylvania, the oldest of four children. He started to draw right away. He is a well known artist and we tried to use his simple type of outline to create our athlete. This is mine showing Dylan Schmidt:

Good afternoon and good morning today. My whole class we had to slide about the county we wanted to do.

Hello and today I am going to talk about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and rubbish and why it is bad for bird’s, fish, turtles and more.

Why do we litter? People often litter because they are too lazy to find a bin or take their rubbish home. Littering is bad for the environment because when you litter then all that litter gets blown into drains. Did you know that 80% of plastic from land ends up in the sea!

Every afternoon Room 6 picks up rubbish and over ten days we have picked up about 500 pieces of rubbish, including plastic. We all know how bad plastic is for our environment because it never decomposes or reduces. It has a bad effect on our sea animals if they eat it or if they get tangled up in it, like in fisherman’s netting.
